Nyerere National Park now the Largest National Park in Africa, a newly established Park that is part of what is known as the Selous Game Reserve.
The Park has been established in the year 2019 and covers an area of over 30,000 square kilometers.
With its largest wilderness area in Africa, it has relatively undisturbed ecological and biological processes.
Within Nyerere National Park there is Rufiji river renowned population of hippo and Rhino. It designates as a photographic zone and is a popular tourist destination.
The sheer volume of the game in the Nyerere is just outstanding!
Elephant, buffalo, and lion are found in greater numbers and it has the last true stronghold for African wild dogs.
The Park experiences bimodal rainfall season and the short rains fall in November and December and are followed by a partial drying out in January and February. Thereafter, the long rains follow ending in early May.

Road: From Dar es salaam to Nyerere National Park is about 250km via Kibiti
Air: There are regular flights from Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro, and Arusha to a number of small airstrips in the Park.
Nyerere National Park has numerous attractions that visitors to the place can enjoy. Some of the best attractions in the Park include the ability to see the big Five, Large concentrations of elephants, and Hippos. The Rufiji River is full of abundant wildlife, the Largest population of African wild dogs to mention but a few. The Park is also endowed with beautiful and scenic landscapes that add to the beauty of this majestic place.
The park offers a wide variety of game viewing opportunities including the thrilling experience of a walking safari in the company of an armed ranger. The many waterways in the park provide an excellent natural setting for boat safaris, both for big game viewing and bird watching. This is in addition to the game drives in specially designed safari vehicles. Which combined with the boat and walking safaris, offer an exciting and rich game viewing itinerary unique to Nyerere National Park. The best time to visit is from June to October. During the long rains, between March and May. Some parts of the park are temporarily closed for game drives due to poor accessibility.
